I have been added to the agenda to give public comment at our School District's Board Meeting on Monday. You should see the emails coming from all the various members of the board since I made the inquiry on yesterday to speak. It is tripping me out to be honest....it feels like they are all stumbling over themselves. I guess they sense by my signature that I am not some yahoo to be taken lightly. I have rallied a show of support to denounce their decision not to air Obama's speech. I also made contact with a local TV reporter to get some media over there if possible. This is the message that I have sent out to various parties...if any of you are in the area...come on out to the shindig!!! :

To Interested Parents Who Have Children in Central Dauphin School District:

I made a request to make public comment at next week’s Central Dauphin School District Board Meeting. I was disheartened by their decision not to air President Obama’s speech in the schools yesterday. Especially considering the fact that the transcript of said speech was accessible and able to be reviewed prior to the broadcast.

We all know that many past presidents speeches and other live broadcasts have occurred in the school WITHOUT controversy. I find this recent decision unacceptable; however, I know that time was not sufficient for anyone to dissuade that decision. I plan to make a comment and request that the school district consider formal policy that WILL NOT allow LIVE broadcasts of any KIND in the schools. Their argument that the speech needed to be videotaped and reviewed for educational content should apply in all instances when LIVE broadcasts are concerned.

I think this would be a fair policy which would prevent future school board leadership and disgruntled parents from forging their own political agendas which, in turn, impact students. At least, it would be one step in the right direction. I ask that parents who have children in the school district (or anyone else) and who were also concerned with this decision please come so that we can stand together to have a voice in this matter.

The meeting starts at 7pm; however, I was told to arrive at 6:45pm. With first and sixth grade students attending school in the district, I plan to be a more visible and vocal parent. The meeting will be held in the Lecture Hall of Central Dauphin East High School, 626 Rutherford Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Very good letter and I agree 100% with you girl, get up there and tell it like it is.

I would also ask that more parents and teachers also speak up. I know with the school board meetings here all you have to do is fill out the slip before the meeting begins, and during the public speaks portion you make your way to the mic and address the school board.

If you want people to speak up and speak out you have to clearly ask them to SPEAK UP because people are sheep and will sit in a room and agree with you and remain quiet.

Don't just ask them to attend ask them to have a voice.

You are right Lee...If they won't speak...I will at least ask them to stand...so there will be a show of a united front. I am waiting for them to post the agenda now. I think they ask us to email them for us to get on the agenda....so that they can b prepared for what might be coming at them. I much prefer to sign in...but i guess this way I can be certain to be heard. They better not try to block me....that will only add fuel to the fire.
